Anna Head

Head Guide - Quito

“Hi, I’m Anna! I have been to Ecuador many times since I was 2 years old and I absolutely love Ecuador. From 2013-2014, I worked in the OSSO office as the Volunteer and Travel Coordinator. At the end of 2014, I served as an OSSO volunteer in Cuenca. I was an FSY counselor during the summer of 2021. I love traveling, reading, walking my dogs, watching K-dramas, and hanging out with my family (especially my nieces and nephews). I am a Special Education teacher and I love helping my students learn how to read, write, and do math. I am so excited to be going back to Ecuador and to be a Guide!”

“Hey, I’m Kailan! I’ve been working with OSSO as the Volunteer and Donor Relations Manager since 2018, but I’ve loved OSSO, their mission and the kids for much longer. I first volunteered with OSSO back in 2014 in Quito. It changed my life and I enthusiastically came back to volunteer again in 2017 and again in 2019. I love the opportunity I have to work with the amazing OSSO team. I live in Arizona with my husband, baby boy, and our sweet foster kiddos. I put my heart and soul into creating the Teen Service Adventures program and I’m so excited to share it with you!”

Jose Hernandez

Session One - Quito

"Hi, I'm Jose! I worked for OSSO from the fall of 2019 until the end of 2020. During some of that time, my wife Kailan and I volunteered in Quito and Cuenca with OSSO. I loved my experience so much and am so excited to be one of the trip leaders for OSSO's Teen Service Adventures! I love Latin America and love immersing myself into the culture. I currently live in Arizona with my wife and our two cute kiddos and can't wait to see you all this summer!"

Michael Vallecillos

Session Two - Quito

"Hey, I’m Michael and I’m super excited to be a Guide this year! I’m from Gilbert, Arizona, born and raised! I love snowboarding, muay thai, traveling, spending time with friends, and pretty much anything outdoors. Thrilled to meet you all this summer!”

I lived in Quito for a year and love the people and culture and can’t wait to experience it with all of you as a Guide! I love surfing, hiking, speaking Spanish, and learning about other cultures and people! I currently live in Mesa, Arizona while working on my master’s degree and teaching at a local high school. I can’t wait to meet you all this summer!”

This summer will be my first time in South America and I’m so excited! I love doing anything outdoors and if I ever have free time on my hands, you can bet that I will be somewhere outside with my family. I can’t wait to serve next to all of you!”

“Hey there, I'm Tyler! I've been to Ecuador to volunteer with OSSO on two different occasions - once in 2016 and another time in 2018. My experiences with OSSO have changed my life; there's nothing that compares! Since volunteering with OSSO, I've traveled to a few different countries in Latin America, including Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia. I live in Provo, Utah and am a student at BYU currently. I love Spanish, service, and skiing and I am so excited to be a Guide for OSSO this summer! Nos vemos pronto!

I can’t wait to serve with you this summer!”

Get your questions answered here! Check out our most common questions about the Teen Service Adventures.

+ Will I need a passport to attend?

Yes, you will need a current passport in order to attend! PLEASE NOTE - If you do not already have your passport, please start your passport process now. Most of our volunteers have been waiting 4-5 months to recieve a passport, or 2-3 months when expedited.

Passports for all accepted teen volunteers will be required by February 1st. If you do not have your passport by then, you will be dropped and someone from the waiting list will be moved into your spot.

+ Will the COVID-19 vaccine be required?

No, the COVID-19 vaccine is no longer required to volunteer. That being said, a few of the orphanages we serve still like volunteers to wear masks.

We do recommend that you are up to date on any standard immunizations, although they are not required.

+ Will I need a visa?

Nope! Ecuador does not require a visa unless you will be staying for longer than 90 days. You will, however, need your passport and we recommend getting that as soon as possible.

+ Can parents come?

Due to limited spots, we will not be taking any parents with our Teen Service Adventures groups. However, if you are a parent and would like to volunteer together with your child, you can apply to volunteer as a family (separately from the Teen Service Adventures groups).

+ What if I apply and the spots are already filled? Will there be a waiting list?

Program spots are first-come, first-serve. Once all spots have been filled, we will begin our waiting list. If a spot opens up, we will contact those on the waiting list. If not, anyone on the waiting list will be given priority for Summer 2025.

+ Can I volunteer with a friend, sibling, or cousin?

Yes! Please apply separately, but there will be a place on the application where you can list the names of your friends or family that you’d like to volunteer with. Please remember that spots are first-come, first-serve, so we recommend applying as soon as possible if you’d like to serve together.

+ What is the refund policy if I have to cancel my trip after being accepted?

Once accepted, any payments that you have made towards your trip are nonrefundable but can be credited towards a future volunteer trip or made as a donation to OSSO. Feel free to contact our office at kailan@orphanagesupport.org with any further questions on our refund policy.

+ What if I turn 14 halfway through the trip? Can I still go?

You must be 14 by the first day of the trip in order to attend.

+ What if I turn 18 halfway through the trip? Can I still go?

If your 18th birthday occurs after the first day of the trip, you may still attend. Otherwise, we highly recommend you look into serving as an individual volunteers!

+ What do I need to bring?

Once accepted to the program, we will provide you with a packing list. Please note - all teen participants will be limited to one carry-on suitcase and one personal item (i.e. backpack or purse). Due to limited space on our travel vans in Ecuador, we are not allowing any checked bags for this trip, so please pack lightly. Washers and dryers will be available at our volunteer housing.

+ I attended last year, can I still apply for this year?

Yes! Former Teen Service Adventures volunteers are more than welcome to apply again for this year.
